Vanessa Lowe is an economic development professional and advocate with a mission is to learn, teach, and have a positive impact. An experienced national and international public speaker and financial education trainer, she uses her expertise in finance to open doors and expand opportunities for people and communities challenged by money and in need of financial resources.
Armed with an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, Vanessa spent 20 years in financial regulation, first with U.S. Treasury, then with the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). At NCUA she led the agency’s work in online learning, producing training videos and webinars for the U.S. based credit union community.
Vanessa first launched her financial consulting practice in 1999 out of a passion for community development finance and a desire to equip low- and moderate- income people with the tools to manage money and grow their wealth.
Over the course of her career Vanessa has taught more than 50 personal finance classes and workshops at conferences, festivals, and through Mount Airy Learning Tree, a neighborhood learning center.
Vanessa is responsible for key initiatives in Philadelphia that have helped create opportunity for local communities. Two of her proudest achievements are the Frankford $aves program and the Work Saves Program. With Frankford $aves, she launched an 8-week financial education program for the Frankford neighborhood that included an Individual Development Account (IDA) financial training and matched savings program. Her Work Saves program is an interactive tool she developed for the city of Philadelphia TANF offices. It showed change in real income for welfare recipients as they transition into the workforce.
